So we left the alpacas and were really hungry – not because we thought about eating the alpacas, because it was late afternoon and we hadn’t eaten since we left the house at 10. So we drove into Hamilton and broke down and ate at a McDonalds. And NZ McDonalds put US ones to shame – instead of combo meals, they have family meals – that even comes with a reusable shopping bag! So we ordered Big Macs and fries and (terrible) salads and drinks and chicken nuggets and it call came in a cute shopping bag with very subtle McDonalds logos. Interesting that the sizes of the Big Macs were smaller than the US – we really to super-size everything.
Once we had met our American urge to eat fast food, we headed to the SkyCity casino in downtown Auckland. We had planned to go to the casino on Christmas (i.e. like Vegas, casinos never close) and it was closed. So back to the casino! We parked in the casino deck and got sticker shock – $15 for the first hour and $5 per hour after. This was resolved ten minutes after we arrived when we all joined the Premier Casino Club and got our parking validated. And we got one spin on the big wheel – Holly and I won $10 to play the slots and Heather won $5. That lasted about 15 minutes – Heather also demonstrated her skill in video blackjack and we walked the casino for some exercise and left.
